Peterstone Court
The bedrooms are furnished in true country house style. The eight bedrooms in the main house are spacious with fine antique furnishings, whilst the four duplex bedrooms in the converted stable block are stylishly modern. The beds are superbly comfortable, too. All rooms, of course, have the ubiquitous CD player as well as multi-channel TV, which in this location, actually works! An added bonus is the well-equipped gym, jacuzzi and sauna in the basement of the hotel – ideal for working off those excesses of the night before! Of course, there is also the swimming pool, but as this is an outdoor one, it’s not very often used. In the summer, when you are not in the pool, you can sit on the terrace overlooking the Usk Valley whilst sipping your brandy, whilst in the winter, the aforementioned sipping can be equally satisfactory in the cosy, wood-panelled library.
...Breakfasts, too, have considerably improved, with a good choice of cereals, local organic yogurts, fresh fruit salad and a “Brecon” breakfast that doesn’t go over the top on quantity – but it’s all there.

Overall, this is a good place to stay for the energetic gourmet – comfortable rooms, good food and plenty of exercise available, either within the hotel or without, like a nice run up to the tops of the nearby Brecon Beacons, especially when the rain stops.

bistro review

Peterstone Court is an old Manor House situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, which was restored some years ago by one of the local Water Companies as a watering hole (appropriately) for their top executives. It has twelve beautifully proportioned and spacious bedrooms, great public rooms and a friendly kitchen. In fact, they like to call themselves a “Country House Hotel and Bistro”. The hotel has been recently purchased by Sean Gerrard, and Glyn and Jessica Bridgeman, who together operate the highly successful Nantyffin Cider Mill gastro-pub and the Manor Hotel, both at nearby Crickhowell. More about these another time. For now you can also read...
