Liguria is noted for its food and Genoa is the capital of Liguria, but it is difficult to find a decent restaurant in Genoa, so when we were told about this one, we felt we had to try it out. Tucked away at the northern corner of the Porto Antico, this is a pleasant small restaurant with ceramic flooring and well spaced tables. There is a fixed price four-course menu at €40 and à la carte main course dishes from €13.50 to €16.50; so not expensive.
Is it good, though? Antipasti of a salad of croccante vegetables (broccoli, carrots, beetroot) with gambas, and the accompanying pesto sauce was delicate and refreshing, whilst a salad of porcini mushrooms and parmesan was both generous and tasty. Pasta (linguine cooked perfectly al dente) with their own brand of pesto sauce - they specialise in re-creating old Genovese recipes - was a good primo piatto to follow.
A main course fish soup was a little disappointing - too much dried fish in the mix, made it rather salty and heavy. The only meat main course (fillet of Argentine steak, was cooked exactly as ordered, but the soufflé of courgettes that accompanied it was a little on the heavy side. A chocolate bavaroise for dessert was uninspiring.
The wine list had a reasonable cover of Italy with a few ‘foreign’ wines thrown in, mainly from France and Spain. Prices, however, were very reasonable and we got a bargain with our choice of Cusumano “Noá” 2000 at a mere €28.
